Windows 10 - Windows Defender Issue

Post by antman147 »

Hi,

I am having an issue with an application i have protected with the Enigma Protector v5.3 running on Windows 10 with Windows Defender.

When i right click on the file within Windows Explorer, it takes more than 1 minutes for the popup menu to appear, then if i select 'properties' it also takes an additional minute. So as you could imagine simple actions of copying the file using windows explorer is quite painful.

If i disable 'Real-time protection' for Windows Defender under Windows 10 the popup appears instantly.

I have tested the same file on Windows 7 with no issues, it is definitely an issue with Windows 10 and Windows Defender.

Any Assistance here would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Windows 10 Version:

Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.318)

Windows Defender Info:

Antimalware client version: 4.9.10586.0
Engine Version: 1.1.12804.0
Antivirus definition: 1.221.14.0
Antispyware definition: 1.221.14.0
Network inspection system engine version: 2.1.12706.0
Network inspection system definition version: 116.2.0.0

Engima Options:

Virtual Box - Don't believe i use this feature, however the following options are ticked...

- Map Executable files using temporary file
- Allow running of virtual executable files.

Checkup - No options here are selected

Miscellaneous - PLugins - No plugins selected

Application file is only 8mb after protection, 20mb before protection

Unfortunately i've also discovered I have the same issue on clients with Windows 7 PCs running MS Forefront Protection.

I also tried re-protecting with The Enigma Protector v4.40 and have the same issues on Windows 10, with Windows Defender mentioned above.

Just to add myself to the list: confirmed here too. This is a lot worse than the normal delay introduced by Enigma. Starting a protected app now takes about a minute with Windows Defender (Antimalware Service Executable) using an entire core during this time.

Quite certainly introduced with the Windows Defender definition update 1.221.14.0 (Windows 10).

Guys, to speed up the process, please, submit also your protected files using this form: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/securit ... ubmit.aspx

NOTE, the radiobox "I believe this file should not be detected as malware" should be checked there. In the the notes you may say "False Detection of the file protected with Enigma Protector, protected file take few minutes to start."

Found that multiple protection systems are affected by this issue, not just Enigma Protector, other major systems also have same problems.

Have a hope that this will be fixed very soon.
